Heart failure

I was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy 10yrs ago. Since being on medication my nurse specialist has said its improved. Will I always have this condition?

  1. Hi. Thank you for your post, and I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with cardiomyopathy. It's great to hear that it has improved. From what I understand, cardiomyopathy typically remains a lifelong condition. But with proper treatment—such as medications, lifestyle changes, and regular monitoring—it can often be well-managed. As you've noted, symptoms can significantly improve or stabilize over time. What kind of treatment has your doctor recommended? John. community moderator

    1. I take candasarten, spironalactone and ferusemide

      1. Thank you for sharing. I am on three diuretics as well! I have not heard of Candasarten before. Is that a generic name for something? How do you mentally cope with taking so many diuretics'? Personally, I find it a mental struggle at times, although it is undeniably essential for my heart failure. Morgan (heart-failure.net Moderator)

    2. I have never used oral testosterone

      1. Wow! I did not even realize that oral testosterone is a thing. Do you know anyone who has used it? Morgan (heart-failure.net Moderator)

    3. I was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy when I was 38. I'm now 63. My disease progressed and I am now in Heart Failure but doing OK with NYHA stage 2, ACC stage C. You should check directly with your cardiologist for the prognosis in your case since each cardiomyopathy will have different outcomes and each individual case may be different. Good luck & positive thoughts your way!

      1. Thank you for sharing. That is a terrific story. Did your care team always tell that your disease would progress or was it wait and see situation? Morgan (heart-failure.net Moderator)
