Stress Test

Please help. After 5 stents from 4 trips to the cath lab over 20 years I know I will not live through another stress test. I am grateful to the intervention, and cooperate with my doctor any way I can, my question is: do I have to have another stress test since i am already far along with this disease. I am seeing a cardiologist next month, I am sure they will order one. I know it gives them the best information just as I know I do not want to go through it again.

  1. Hi. justzukies. this is a great question. And, believe it or not, I have heard this question from patients of mine. And the answer to your question is "No, you do not have to have the test." And the reason is that YOU are the boss. And I would think that any reasonable physician would respect your wishes there. Although, if your doctor thinks you would benefit from the test, I am sure he or she would give a valid argument for getting the test. And, still, from that point, it is up to you whether or not you have the test. What do you think? John. heart-failure.net community moderator.

    1. , Just back, Thank you for the reply. After 5 of these in 20 years i just feel this will be the time I won't make it. My BP been going back up despite medication.

  2. I have to be honest, I understand exactly how you feel. I found myself in that place many of times. Sometimes it was beneficial sometimes it wasn't. In the end its your decision and of course the doctors will advise you best. Go with how you feel. I have turned some down before. I hope all is well no matter what

    1. Just back, thank you for the reply.

      1. You could just say no. Is this an actual stress test or a nuclear one? A nuclear one they inject you with a drug that increases your heart rate as if you were on a treadmill. In my opinion, you should have a serious discussion with your cardiologist and express your concerns and find out why he wants to do the test (if he wants one). You should ask now about changing your meds for BP if they are not working. Just my opinion, I'm not an expert but joined this forum after having a heart attack on a train and quadruple bypass surgery. Best of luck.
