Suffering from strange symptoms

Hi folks,

*Firstly, I apologise in case this forum is only meant for those who`ve been officially diagnosed only with heart failure.*

So here are my symptoms:

Pressure in my chest and also in my head. I feel as if my chest is extremely tight.

Slight bit of physical activity or movement causes a blackout before my eyes and I feel as if I'll just faint.

Extreme fatigue and also the sleep is.... just too deep. I feel as if I die at night instead of sleeping.

I feel as if waves are going into my head when I lie down.

There were a couple of occasions recently where I felt as if I had kind of been unconscious for a minute or so. Like, as I wasn't aware of the surrounding around me.

I feel my heartbeat a lot, even if it's 60 or 140.

My heart rate is often over 100 but touches 140 and is often over 120.

Now, the GP is sure that the issue is cardiological. However, based on the ultrasound and the ECG, the cardiologist denies that my issue is cardiological. The heart rate has been dismissed as sinus rhythm, although it was seen in the ECG. I can't do the stress test because of my disabilities - I'm a wheelchair-user.

I'm just not sure what to do. My GP was still kind enough to have put me on a Beta-blocker to reduce the heart rate, however, it didn't help much, as it gave me the feeling as if my heart had stopped beating altogether. Also, it didn't address my symptoms and only increased the tiredness.

I'm just not sure what to do..... Really frustrated and run out of ideas!

  1. Hi. You are more than welcome to post your inquiry in our community. Sorry, you are experiencing this and that your physicians have opposing opinions about your diagnosis. And, as you probably know we cannot diagnose or offer medical advice over the Internet, for your own safety of course. Although, your concerns are certainly worthy of a reply here. And I have a question for you: Did your cardiologist say you are unable to do a stress test? I ask this because I know that you can do a stress test even if you are wheelchair-bound. There is a special kind of stress test called a lexiscan. Another test your doctor may consider is a zio patch. This would allow your doctor to monitor your EKG for a 1-2 week period. Both of these tests would go a long way to helping your doctors give you the proper diagnosis you deserve. Is this something you would consider discussing with your physician? John. 1. No, I´ve actually been to multiple specialist, including cardiologists and neurologists, the recent times. I´ve received very little help because a lot of doctors have admitted frankly that they´re hearing the name of the syndrome for the first time, and besides that, there´s very little that can be done, in terms of medication, to treat it. In the whole province in Germany where I live, there´s not a single doctor specialised at treating POTS, and in the whole country itself, there´re only five to eight or so, I think.

    2. Thank you again for the update. It has to be frustrating that the doctors you are seeing know so little about your condition, and that there are so little treatments for it. Hopefully your doctors (or at least one of them) takes the time to do some research on the side in order to better help you. Here's wishing you all the best moving forward.
