Afib and HFPRF

I read that there is no drugs for HFPRF, but that cardio rehab could slow it down/stop progression.

Anyone have experience with this?

I have no risk factors. This frustrates me as I have always lived a healthy lifestyle. I am not over weight or obese, no diabetes, no metabolic disorders, low BP. I don’t drink. I don’t smoke, I have never done any drugs at all….not even over the counter. The ER doc said my blood work was “pristine”. So I want to know…why me?

There doesn’t seem to be any lifestyle changes that I could make. Only thing is I am 1) female, and 2) over the age of 70. So my chad score is 2. Don’t see how I can change that….

The only thing is, during this entire last year I have been through multiple surgeries…for my knee, hip, back. So, getting back on my feet has been a slow process: total of 18 weeks in physical therapy…then, just as I was starting to get back..the next thing would happen…including 8 weeks with shingles! Now, I can walk again..and Afib happened. I kept complaining about how tired and out of breath I am all the time. I thought it was the drugs for Afib. Blood test revealed HF. Echocardiogram show that it is diastolic. HFpRF.

  1. Thank you for your question. It is very frustrating getting diagnosed with heart failure after living a healthy lifestyle all your life. Trust me, I've been there. I am attaching some articles that I hope will be able to help you on your journey as well as explain HRpRF in more detail. I wish you all the best. -Olivia
