head pain

I am having terrible pain in my head. I have small vessel disease. So far all I can find out about it is, that's it plaque in the arteries. My doctor told me it was from my heart not pumping enough oxygen-rich blood to my brain.

Wherever the pain occurs that part of the brain's function diminishes. It's like Alzheimer's disease. I am so worried and I cry a lot during the day. The pain wakes me up at night and I cant sleep. I pray and cry. We never know what might happen to us later in life. Every part of my brain pains me. There are so good days.

I am able to function but worry about a lot of things.

  1. Hello. First, thank you for sharing. Second, I'm so sorry you're experiencing the pain you describe.

You're correct, we never know what may happen to us later in life. You expressed that you're able to function; but also worry a lot. Which is completely understandable. You wouldn't be human if you didn't. I believe the pain you describe would affect most people in a similar way. Especially considering it also affects you at night; and when you're trying to sleep. Do you have a therapist or support person you can share with judgment free? Having a support team to release your thoughts may help ease your worrying (and pain).

I currently take a statin for CAD (coronary artery disease); but I hadn't heard of small vessel disease until you shared your personal journey with it. From what I've read it occurs when there's blood vessel damage. I know headaches can be debilitating and affect daily living. However, are you able to do any exercises at home? Have you noticed any improvements with medication? If not, have you considered discussing a new treatment plan with your team?

You mentioned your research; but I wanted to include a link to one of the sources I read. I really hope you're able to get some relief soon. We're here to support you as best we can. Take care. ❤️ Tina Marie (heart-failure.net Team Member)

    1. I do strength and stretching exercise at home. My problem started with metropolol. It lowers the heart rate thus, I dont get enough oxygen to my brain. Yes, there is vessel damage.
I will be going back to the doctor next week for follow-up and will discuss if anything can be done to help ease the pain. The results from the pain in certain areas of my brains can and have affected the functions of that particular area. Most of the time I am in a fog. I am still mobile and dont let that stop me but eventually it will be dementia or Alzheimer's disease. I guess Metropolol is a life saving medication but it has terrible effects.
Thanks for the link but I live in North Carolina and Cleveland would be too far for me to travel for treatment.
      Thanks for the response.
