Heart failure cardiologist

Would a heart failure cardiologist understand my symptoms since my regular cardiologisk doesn't?

  1. This is a great question! Yes, there are cardiologists that specialize in heart failure. Generally, these doctors have completed extra training specifically in the field of heart failure. Are you able to Google if you have any heart failure cardiologist nearby? -Lauren (team member)

    1. Yes I do through my insurance. I just don't understand why my cardiologist doesn't ask if I'm having problems & when I try to tell him he goes "Huh, that's odd" & walks off.

    2. That is a good question - but they are not called heart failure cardiologist. For example, I see a doctor who only treats heart failure patients, and he is a called an Advanced Heart Failure doctor. There are fewer of them, so you might have to be willing to travel to see one, and I would start with the larger systems. For instance, here in Michigan, I think only 3 hospital systems in the state have Advanced Heart Failure Doctors, and they are typically connected with the hospitals who offer heart transplants. Not every hospital is certified to do that. I hope that helps! Morgan (heart-failure.net Moderator)

  2. Since I'm terminal & only need to have my symptoms managed & kept comfortable should I stay with Dr I have.

    1. That is a question best left to a heart failure doctor. You can always make the appointment and hear what they say? Morgan (heart-failure.net Moderator)
