high Cholesterol

Hi i have just joined this forum because i have some concerns ref my cholesterol levels which i will attach as photos. My cholesterol level when i was first warned last year was 6.7 at which point i was offered statins which i resisted due to having seen several side effects in my mother from body muscle aches to brain fog. The Dr said i could try a lifestyle change as i was slightly over weight which i agreed to and started a lifestyle change which is as follows. I totally reduced fast food saturated foods sugar and lowered carbs along with these changes i started a rigorous routine of exercise which involved between 6 and 10mile walks every other day and occasional light weights at home. this lifestyle continued for a whole year since the diagnosis of 6.7 cholesterol .Many people who i know commented on how slim i am now looking and i felt the cholesterol must surly have normalised but upon receiving the latest test results i am very disheartened to say the least as the figures have not moved one iota since last year. I am very against taking statins and have heard they often cause more issues than they solve. Thankyou all for reading and i would appreciate any advice.

  1. Thank you for sharing. I can understand, as my father actually was on statins and has the same issues. However, the cardiologist just put my father on a new type of anti - cholesterol drug that does not produce these side effects. Maybe it's a good time to ask your doctor about newer statin drugs? Also, do not beat yourself up. Some cholesterol issues are just genetic, which does stink! Here is a link to that new anti - cholesterol drug - https://www.verywellhealth.com/nexletol-bempedoic-acid-statin-alternative-fewer-side-effects-7368225. I hope this helps, and do not despair. Move forward, while being so proud of yourself in what you have done. There are definite positive health impacts of what you have done, even if it's not in lowered cholesterol....Morgan (heart-failure.net Moderator)

    1. Hello and thanks for your question. I am linking 2 articles at the end of this comment that talk about your question. I think it's great that you saw some weight loss! Just because your cholesterol didn't move doesn't mean you should stop being more active and avoiding certain foods. Keep pushing forward as said. -Olivia https://heart-failure.net/clinical/cholesterol https://heart-failure.net/clinical/statins
