Not sure what's going on

CI've had a cough, shortness of breath and swelling in my legs and ankles. I'm doing in center hemodialysis. I had an appt with the lung doctor but he couldn't identify why I'm having these problems. My doctor did a BNP and it was 1,843 so now I have an appt with the cardiologist and an echocardiogram scheduled. I was doing fine until a week ago Saturday when this popped up out of nowhere. Is it possible to get CHF so unexpectedly?

  1. Hi. Welcome to our heart failure community. Thank you for sharing your personal experience and for your question. It sounds like you're going through a lot, and I'm sorry to hear about the health issues you're experiencing. Given your symptoms and medical history, it's understandable to have concerns about the sudden onset of these problems.

It is possible for heart failure to develop suddenly, especially if there are underlying conditions or triggers. However, we can't definitively say if this is what's happening in your case. Has your doctor ordered any additional tests, such as an ultrasound or echocardiogram, to investigate your heart's condition further?

Wishing you all the best,Wishing you all the best. John. community moderator.

    1. @CommunityMember852c1e Thank you for finding out community. How did you come across us? I am not a physician, and health related questions are best directed to your medical team. I can tell you that there is all sorts of ways, and timelines, that get you to heart failure (unfortunately). I've heard stories of it popping up for some, and some also say that looking back they recognize that they had symptoms for awhile but did not realize what was going on at the time. I can tell you as well that as far as symptoms go, a cough, shortness of breath and swelling are not uncommon among heart failure patients. Hang in there and keep us updated! 1. Hello, I am linking a few articles written by community health leaders and the community about CHF. https://heart-failure.net/congestive-heart-failure https://heart-failure.net/classification https://heart-failure.net/symptoms. I hope they help! -Olivia

        1. Yes, it's possible to develop CHF suddenly, especially with existing kidney issues. Your upcoming cardiologist appointment and echocardiogram will provide more clarity on what's causing your symptoms.
