Exercise - specifically planking

Does anyone do planking exercises?

I've been walking and started others exercises. What to do is easy to find; what not to do is ambiguous.

I've read some things that said to avoid certain types of exercises but nothing has specifically mentioned planking.

I have an abdominal situation where side-plank is one of the best exercises to correct it

  1. HI. JimMc. I do planking quite a bit. I am told it is one of the best exercises for strengthening your abdominal muscles. I am not aware of it being an exercise to avoid heart failure or heart disease. Although, if you are concerned it is always a good idea to run topics like this past your physician. What do you think? 1. What do I think? I thought that this was a support group... If there were such a thing as a "primary care physician" here, I might go to ask questions. All the Dr said was "lose some weight".

    2. I would think you are fine to do planking. I can't imagine it would be bad for your heart. I think the recommendation by experts is to do whatever exercises you can do -- and planks and walking are two of the best exercises. And sorry all your doctor said was lose some weight. That was not nice. John. heart-failure.net community moderator.

  2. I don't do plank but always wanted to start to strengthen my abdominal muscles. I do alot of bicycling to get my muscles active due to my bone disease.

    1. I was told that planks are among the best ways to strengthen your abdominal muscles -- and they are relatively easy to do -- even with heart disease (or lung disease as is the case with me). Neat thing is, you can do them while watching your favorite shows on TV. John. heart-failure.net community moderator

  3. I've done planking. My cardiologists are aware of it as part of my low impact exercise regime. They have not advised against it. I would say, as with all else, listen to your body to determine if you might need to stop doing them.
