ICD battery

I have to have the battery replaced in my ICD soon. Has anyone else had to do this? Has anyone been shocked after?

  1. The doctors remove and replace the battery. Simple procedure.

    1. Thank you for chiming in and sharing your experiences! Hopefully this will put others at ease. Morgan (heart-failure.net Moderator)

  2. Hi there, generally speaking a battery replacement is a outpatient procedure, not nearly as invasive as the initial insertion. Are you asking if you are shocked in order to test that the device is working, just to be clear? This would be a question for your cardiologist. Is your appointment for you battery exchange scheduled? -Lauren (Team member)

    1. My goodness! What an awful experience, I'm so sorry that you had to deal with this. I do hope that your battery replacement procedure is much easier for you. All the best, Lauren (Team Member)

    2. Wow! Thank you for sharing. That would cause anyone PTSD. Also, just a friendly reminder, but you can always get a second opinion. Sometimes things are so rare that a doctor has simply never seen it, so it if are nervous perhaps getting a second opinion about if this is a possibility and what to do if you are shocked again would help put your mind at ease? Just a thought! Morgan (heart-failure.net Moderator)
