Medication Side Effects

Sometimes certain medications make us feel "off," worse, or even sick because we experience side effects. Every person is different, and different medications can impact people in various ways.

Have you ever experienced feeling worse after starting a new medication or changing doses? What was your experience like, and how did you manage the side effects?

  1. My experience was with metropolo. It was making me so dizzy. It is meant t slow your heart down. Once I switched it isn't as bad

    1. I am so glad that is was better once you switched it. Have you been happy on your new medication?

    2. Thank you for sharing! I will say that at least from personally experience, there was also a pretty long transition period for my body to get adjusted to the meds, and I felt very crummy until I was adjusted. I hope that helps! Morgan (heart-failure.net Moderator)

  2. For low blood pressure, I will drink more fluids. It'll come up a little. But it depends on how low it is. Too low for me is 90/50..I try and stay in the range of 100/60.

    1. Hi Marla, thanks for chiming in! Do you check your blood pressure often? -Lauren (team member)

    2. I hear you! I am in the same boat. Do you have symptoms when you get low blood pressure? At my last appointment my doctor was also telling me to stand up slowly, and in the past when it's really low I will lay down and elevate my feet. I hope that helps. Morgan (heart-failure.net Moderator)

  3. Yes, I've had that happen.
I started a new medication once and felt nauseous and dizzy. I called my doctor, who adjusted my dosage and gave me tips to ease the side effects.
It was tough, but talking to my doctor really helped me manage it better.

    1. Thank you for participating in the conversation. Which medication did you start and you felt nauseous and dizzy? Personally, I feel poorly when we either start a new med or change dosages, so it happens often unfortunately. I would agree that my heart failure doctor did help me manage it as well, I am happy that you asked him/her about it. How are you feeling now? Morgan (heart-failure.net Moderator)
