Surgery aftercare with no carer

Hi,
I am new to the forum.
Hi, I am the partner of a man who suffers from CHF, in the later stages. Currently he is very weak and in hospital.

He has been looking into getting getting a left ventricular assist device implanted while he goes on the heart transplant list, but was told that he would need to be cared for for 6 weeks after the LVAD surgery, as a condition of having the surgery (at UVA).

I live in a different country currently, and his family are unable to leave their lives to care for him so he has no one to help him.

I'm wondering if anyone knows what options may be available for surgery aftercare without a family member to care for him? He is a veteran and is still awaiting a response from the VA as to what they may have available (if anything).

We are getting desperate, as he may not survive the year without the LVAD so any suggestions appreciated, thanks.

  1. I'm so sorry to hear that you and your partner are in this situation. Is there any chance you could be seen by another healthcare provider(s) while you're waiting to hear from the VA? It's quite disheartening to hear that it's taking so long. Thank you for being part of our community and wishing you all the best. - John M. (Heart-Failure.net Team)
