Aortic Valve Replacement

I am scheduled for a TAVR to replace my valve. This has come very fast after shifting from having a murmur to needing a new valve. I am 72 and the interventional surgeon explained that people my age have an average of 9 years after surgery. I cannot stop focusing on this. I think I have been hoping to live into my 90's and now feel like death is so near. I am weepy and want to focus on the positive and one day at a time, but have not gotten there yet.

  1. Just know not to get discouraged by what the surgeon said. Every person's body responds to treatments differently. Although I know it's challenging try to keep a positive mind. We as a community are here for you. I've attached some articles written by some people in the community about aortic valve replacement. -Olivia

    1. Did you have your surgery? If so, could you tell me how you felt afterward and how long was your recovery period.
My son is scheduled for aortic surgery next in a few weeks and we are terrified.
      Thank you❤️

    2. Hello, I'm sorry to hear about your son's surgery. From what I know about aortic valve replacement recovery, it takes 1-2 months, but everyone is different. We have contributors in this community who have had this procedure done. I'm linking some articles from them and an article about valve replacement that I hope will help you. Wishing you all the best. -Olivia https://heart-failure.net/valve-replacement https://heart-failure.net/living/riding-wave https://heart-failure.net/stories/coronary-arteries

        1. you are so welcome, we are here for you, surgery can always be stress inducing for those of us going through it and those of us who are standing by the ones we love who are going through surgery.
I trust that his surgery will be successful and smooth sailing.
