Sod1 gene linked to heart risks.

What does having the alternate alleles mean with rs1041740 I have T/T and according to the site linked below it counts as a cardiovascular risk.
How much more likely am I to have heart problems because of this gene versus one with the C/C variant?.

  1. Great question. To answer your question, this is an area of science and medicine that is still relatively new to researchers (it was started in the 1980s). And it is neat now that they are learning about what specific "genes" are linked to certain diseases such as ours. In the future, this type of information may help physicians both diagnose and treat heart failure. In the meantime, it is something they are studying in an attempt to answer questions like yours. If you are interested, I will attach an article here (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5068777/) that you may find helpful. John. heart-failure.net community moderator.
