DCM versus athletes heart

Hi guys,

Hope you don’t mind me posting as starting my journey. I’m 32 years old soccer player who had a black out last year and ended up in hospital. The cause of black out is likely to be mituaration syncope. However, several tests revealed dilated heart and low ejection fraction. I had a V02 test a month prior and got 56 so fit.

I detrained for four months to see if measurements would reduce which they did and I returned to soccer playing several games. However, I recently got a call to say cardiologists reviewed my cardiac mri and I am starting ace inhibitors for the rest of my life. Ejection fraction was 45.

This was out of the blue and still allowed to play football but I don’t know if I’m diagnosed with DCM now or not.

Has anyone had anything similar?

We appreciate you reaching out. As you may be aware, DCM is diagnosed via a combination of imaging, blood work and your physicians evaluation/exam. Unfortunately, we are unable to say if you have DCM.
Hopefully some of our community members will chime in here with their personal experiences.
In the meantime, you may want to reach out to your cardiologist to address your questions and concerns.
All my best, Doreen (Team Member)
