EVAR vs. Open Heart Surgery

Aortic aneurism repair

  1. Hi. Welcome to our community. I see you are a new member, having just signed up last evening (at 6:55 to be precise). How are you doing this morning? Are these procedures that your doctor has recommended for you? Or are you looking for information about these procedures? Wishing you all the best. John. community moderator.

    1. I’m looking for opinions or real life experiences about these different type of surgeries. It effects myself and children !!

      1. Hi there, I wanted to follow up and add on to what our other community moderators comments. TVAR (transcatheter aortic valve replacement) is minimally invasive using much smaller incisions than if the valve replacement would be done open. Has your doctor discussed with you which type of procedure would work for you? All the best, Lauren (team member)

    2. Hello there. I am attaching a few articles written by people in our community who have had experience with aortic aneurysms. I hope reading it will help you. All the best. -Olivia

      1. After going through many assessments and tests my cardiac surgeons have recommend TAVR vs open heart. Although this recovery is quick compared to open heart, I am at risk for a pacemaker. But what is harder is that at 72,.my life expectancy after is only 9 yrs. So glad they can do this, but so hard to have death known so close.

        1. I hear your concerns, thank you for sharing so openly. While a TAVR is less invasive, it does come with risks. Perhaps your cardiac surgeon can let you know the percent of their patients that require pacemakers. It truly sounds that you have done your research and are asking the right questions. Do you feel comfortable discussing your concerns with your doctor? All the best, Lauren (team member)

        2. When are you scheduled for surgery? What is the expected recovery time from the surgery? - Clair, ( Team Member)
