I will be 78 on 5/9/. March 23rd 2025 was the worst day of my life. I was watching TV with my husband and all of a sudden my chest felt funny, then both arms hurt and then my jaw hurt on both sides. Then i got real dizzy and my husband said i fell back on the couch. He felt my pulse and i had none so he laid me on the floor and started CPR and when he got a pulse he called 911. I have no recollection of it at all. The EMTs came and took me to the hosp and i had another heart attack and they had to paddle me. I also have no recollection of that either. They sent me to the Cardio hosp in the next town. I had IVs in both arms and blood taken every 4 hrs. They did every test under the sun including a painful Cath. The results were good and bad. I was in really good shape especially for my age from head to foot but my heart stopped keeping the rhythm and was going way too fast. No heart disease and no clogged arteries. So the doc said i had to have an ICD for sure. There was no choice as the event would eventually happen again and if i were to be alone or in bed i would surly die. So i had the ICD implanted on 3/25/25. Went home the next day..so 4 days in the ICU. I healed pretty quick. It was sore and my chest was sore from being paddled but nothing intolerable. I took Tylenol and it worked well. Now you can barely see the ICD and i am skinny. The incision is all healed. Had a really great Surgeon. Would like to add that for many yrs i went for a yrly physical exam which included an EKG, an Echogram and Carotid scans. They were always perfect. Had many MRIs and Cat Scans and always perfect and blood was always perfect. No diabetes or anything. So this came to a complete shock. If you're told you need a Pacemaker or an ICD do not hesitate..DO IT!!!
