spironolactone

This medication has been causing havoc on my bladder and irritation in my vagina. I asked the cardiologist to limit it to 3 days a week, instead of daily. It also makes me tired. I take it for left branch bundle block and some regeritation.

  1. ,
I'm sorry you are having a difficult time with spironolactone.
Increased urination is certainly one of the most common side effects of spironolactone. If you don't already, taking it first thing in the morning might make a difference.
As we wait for others to chime in with their personal experiences, you my want to have a conversation with your doctor about a possible alternate or perhaps if lowering the daily dosage (mg) may make a difference.

  2. It’s interesting that you find Spironolactone has this side effect, I take it but also take Dapagloflozin, which according to my doctor causes vaginal thrush. Now I wonder if it’s Spiro as well!

    1. ,
That is quite interesting. Although, I too take spironolactone I personally am not aware of any drug interaction, it may be something you'd want to discuss with your doctor.

  3. I was having terrible breathing issues upon exertion while taking 50mg/day of SPIRONOLACTONE and a FUROSEMIDE, for heart failure. My cardiologist reduced the SPIRONOLACTONE by 1/2 and it lessened the breathing issue but I have a chemical taste which makes me not want to eat and I have lost 13 lbs. as a result. I have very little to no appetite. I would appreciate your advice.

    1. and ,
It's unfortunate that you are both having issues with spironolactone.
Alternative options would vary depending on your current condition, severity of symptoms, and interaction with other medications you are currently taking.
It would be best to discuss your specific options and individual needs with your healthcare provider.

  4. I took Spironolactone for a while but had the Gynecomastia so bad I had it added to the allergy list my provider keeps. Now take Eplerenone, have had small amount of Gynecomastia but nothing like what Spironolactone triggered.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience.
I'm glad to hear eplerenone has made a difference for you.
